The
ETHNIKI Hellenic General Insurance Company
“The Ethniki Hellenic General Insurance Company” was
established in 1891 in Athens and throughout the following
years has emerged as the NBG Group’s representative
in the Greek insurance market. Nowadays, the participation
of National Bank of Greece in its equity amounts to 76%. “The
Ethniki Hellenic General Insurance Company” issues policies
covering a wide range of risks (life, health, fire, motor,
calamity, credit, aircraft, hull and cargo) and enjoys strong
reinsurance backup via world-class companies active principally
in Europe.
From the very beginning to the present day, “The Ethniki
Hellenic General Insurance Company” has operated with
full awareness of its responsibility and impeccable, indeed
exemplary, professionalism, setting a paradigm. In this framework,
and in the wake of the international developments, by mid-1996
it was decided that all the insurance companies of the National
Bank group (namely ASTIR, Panellinios and ETEBA) would be
merged through absorption to “The Ethniki Hellenic General
Insurance Company”, a merge that took place in September
1997.
“The Ethniki Hellenic General Insurance Company” is
a company in full command of the Greek market, fulfilling
all the requirements for further development in the Balkans
and the countries bordering the Black Sea, offering assurance
to its clients, prosperity to its personnel and high returns
to its shareholders. The company offers its products through
a network of 45 branches, 155 insurance offices and 1 284
insurance agencies covering the entire geographic territory
of the country.
To facilitate the company's growth and further boost its
profitability, emphasis is being placed on expanding its activities
to the countries where NBG operates. Besides GARANTA ASIGURARI, “The
Ethniki Hellenic General Insurance Company” has set
up two subsidiaries in Cyprus (respectively in the life and
general insurance sectors) while in Bulgaria, Ethniki participates
in a joint venture scheme along with AIG and United Bulgarian
Bank providing both Life and Non-Life insurance.
Ethniki’s social awareness
From the outset, Ethniki Asfalistiki has remained true to
its vision focused on man, a vision governing all its activities.
Over its long History, it has often been given the opportunity
to express its social awareness. In the past, Ethniki Asfalistiki
has assisted the State in its efforts to economically restructure
the country, ands it has never hesitated to take initiatives
in order to assist charitable organizations. Ethniki Asfalistiki
feels proud of its contribution but always ensured that its
role has been a discreet one.
